Around
500 lives are saved and 7,000 serious injuries prevented* in
the UK every year by seat belts. But they must be worn and they
must be in good condition. If not they need replacing.
Like
tyres and brakes, seat belts are subject to everyday wear &
tear - infact around half a million cars fail the MoT each year
on seat belts. Even fluffing or fraying can weaken them to such
an extent that they may well be useless - so, as it says in
your car's owner manual, it's important to replace belts showing
signs of wear.
Securon
manufactures a range of seat belts that is suitable for virtually
every vehicle on the road - some even going back to the fifties.
They can be found on most High Streets, or through your local
garage.
Note
to editors:- A RoSPA guide to inspecting seat belts - "Driving
Safely Requires Restraint" is available (free) from RoSPA,
Securon and most Road Safety Officers.

Half
a million cars fail the MoT Test on seat belts every year BUT
all MoT Testers require further training and guidance regarding
seat belt checks - as recommended by RoSPA, following their
recent survey which revealed that MoT Stations regularly pass
vehicles with defective seat belts.
The
Vehicle Inspectorate has now issued a training video "What
a Belter" to all MoT Stations. The video clearly shows
the importance of inspecting seat belts and the devastating
forces to which they are subjected in accidents at only 30MPH.
It highlights the reasons for failure including "fluffing,
fraying and small cuts" which are the results of everyday
wear and tear.
Drivers
don't wait for their tyres or brake pads to fail the MoT before
replacing them and likewise they should inspect their seat belts
regularly and replace any that show signs of wear & tear
or abuse - as it says in their owners manual.

"SEAT
BELTS DON'T LAST FOREVER"?
|
|
|
Everyone
automatically thinks that seat belts last forever - Securon has
been told it time and again. Unfortunately it's just not true -
and it's a dangerous thing to believe. So Securon is launching a
campaign to encourage people to check and replace those that are
not in good condition.
You sit
in your car, put on your seat belt and feel safe. Your feeling
doesn't change no matter how worn the belt is, but the belt's
performance does! A seat belt that's been subject to wear, tear
or abuse can be up to 70% weaker than one in good condition.
Just about
every car's owner manual produced in the last 10 years insists
that seat belts are checked and replaced if they show any sign
of wear. Nearly
½ million cars fail their MoT each year on seat belts.
Securon
replacement belts are made to the same European standards as the
original belts and are available from your local car parts/ accessory
retailers or garages.

CENTRE
REAR LAP & DIAGONAL SEAT BELT
|
|
|
Securon
believes it is the only manufacturer able to provide an E
approved lap and diagonal seat belt for installation in the centre
rear of cars with only a lap belt, or no belt, in this position.
The Securon
product, available from good Car Parts Outlets or directly from
Securon, uses the anchorage points of the lap belt with one additional
fabricated anchorage point. By this means the integrity of the
lap belt is maintained and additional safety provided by the diagonal
belt.
Priced
at around £70.00 it can be installed by a competent mechanic.

Securon
has launched a new Internet trade page to help the trade identify
which seat belt is required.
The page is subdivided by vehicle type (as below) and provides
applications, layouts, specifications and images of the products.
The trade will find it a very useful link to add to their favourites.
The information is designed to be printed and passed on to customers.
It also answers frequently asked questions i.e. how to replace
a seat belt fitted with a pretensioner or where to fit a seat
belt extender.
