PRETENSIONERS - Guidance on deactivation (essential before replacing Seat Belts)



CARE

Take care when handling Pretensioners. If in doubt contact a competent mechanic.
LOCATION
· IN OR ADJACENT TO SEAT BELT RETRACTOR
or
· IN OR ADJACENT TO SEAT BELT BUCKLE
MAIN TYPES
No electrical connection
Electrical connection to SRS (Airbag) control module
DEACTIVATION
Generally contain a method of deactivation:

· Loosen the Retractor or Pretensioner mounting Bolt.
or
· Use the pin/fork attached to the pretensioner.
or
· Turn or push the deactivation Latch/Lever.

Generally deactivated by disarming the SRS
  1. Switch off ignition, remove key and disconnect
    all battery leads. Wait 30 mins.

  2. Disconnect, tape and unobtrusively secure the
    cable from the pretensioner.
  3. To prevent the SRS warning light remaining
    illuminated (on the dashboard) it may be
    necessary to simulate the pretensioner by replacing
    it with a 2.3 Ohm resistance across the taped cable.
  4. Ensure vehicle interior is unoccupied when rearming.
    Reconnect battery leads and switch on ignition.
  5. Check SRS warning light operates.
DISPOSAL
Used Seat Belts can be dangerous. Do not disassemble. Dispose of safely.
SECURON REPLACEMENT
The Securon Seat Belt system is a direct replacement approved to the same European standard as a Seat Belt with a pretensioner. (It will arrest the wearer within the same tolerances without the need for a Pretensioner).
